Cadwell Race Report

25th September 2004

Loose connection to fuel pump resulted in qualifying 34th, Simon Howard was at the sharp end with his first pole.

Heat 1 was won by Simon Hunt, Steve Drewery and Andy Burgess behind. I line up 16th on the grid for Heat 2. Video of the start, Noel Moffitt taking to the grass, and more video of Noel Moffitt taking to the grass here. I manage to work my way up to 11th, despite appalling lap times. Martin Boon wins from Terry Roughton, Paul Sheehan. This makes me first reserve for the final.

Being Cadwell, and being Stock Hatch the inevitable happened into turn 1, the grid was reassembled and I was able to join, along with Damian Cottrell and Andrew Thorpe behind. Video of the start, then the Mountain in lap 1, Cottrell failing to make it stick, Cottrell passing through and Final lap into the mountain here. I finish 21st. Darren Blumson posts his first win, six years in the making. Maurice Hayden and Pete Morgan follow.

26th September 2004

Sundays Heat 1 was won by Ian Laughton followed by Steve Drewery then Simon Hunt, I am in Heat 2 and get away well, although Sheehan gets back through and we make contact but stay on the road, I make a mistake into the last corner and Stewart Nind is able to pass and Moffitt also gets through. Nind loses it into hairpin the following lap but covers the track and holds position. Christopher Petto passes me and Jon Howes also gets through. Lose out to Cottrell for the second time of the weekend, and I am still defending from Nick Carter and Matthew Perks in the final laps. Carter drives into me giving me a big sideways moment, then nearly collects the barriers himself half a lap later, but I'm out of time and finish 12th. Roughton wins from Matt Lewis, Boon.

Reserve for final but no offs this time so I shot some video from the pit wall. Craig Shepherd leading from Stuart Pearson on lap 4 (or 5) and the finish, Darren Blumson taking the second win of the weekend, followed by Pearson, and Maurice Hayden.

Thanks to Pat Grove for the miniDV tape, or there would be no Sunday footage.
