Silverstone Race Report

24th August 2003

Qualified 15th with a 1:16.03 and launched from line beside Tibbs, avoiding Stokes, slow off start, and through Copse into Maggots behind Wright, Blumson and alongside Forster, who I couldn't pass so followed down Club Straight, with Roughton just ahead, and into Woodcote in a train of cars. This put me 10th over line for lap 2 behind Roughton, Forster, who I attacked outside round Copse, and again outside at Maggots, but went wide gifting Lewis and Morgan through. Lap 3 and Matt and Pete took Forster into Copse, but I could not follow, and into Brooklands charging Glenn went past both of us. I tried again to attack Forster on lap 6 & 7 as I was catching into Maggots, but failed to pass, and started to get pressure from Hunt, who had caught right up after Tibbs got taken out and the yellow flags slowed us down. The desire to preserve my new paintwork prevented me from defending more aggressively, and Hunt passed through Brooklands on lap 9, so I finished 14th, ahead of Rodway, without a scratch, and knowing there is more in me and the car, looking forward to Lydden, but more so Snetterton. Best lap in race 1:16.04
